Shumonta and Matt are totally amazing human beings. I first met Shumonta when she was a bridesmaid at a wedding I was shooting. The wedding she was a bridesmaid at, that bride had met me when I shot her friend’s wedding. That friend first met me when I met her friend’s wedding, and she met me when I met her friend’s wedding. Did you keep up? This Oct I’m doing the wedding of one of Shumonta’s bridesmaids! There is no bigger compliment than this long line of referrals, plus its extra awesome is that I get to hang with my couples again!
She caught the bouquet at a previous wedding I shot!
Matt and Shumonta had it sorted. They knew they wanted their weddings (you read that right) to be about family and friends. Surrounded by those they loved and having the time of their lives was the centre of their plans. The couple first met when Shumonta was a bridesmaid at a mutual friends wedding. Shumonta actually caught the bouquet at her friend’s wedding I shot, it was great when she got in touch. There is no bigger compliment than shooting the weddings of friends and family of my couples, they see me in action, get to know me, trust me and love the images. Shumonta is a bit of a superhuman being. Our pre-wedding contact was often from the places she was working helping saving lives such as Nepal and Uganda.
The first wedding was the civil ceremony in Guildford near where the couple are based. They then held a traditional Bangladeshi event in Richmond which featured lots of bright colours, music and food. Making use of Matt’s parents amazing garden.
Domaine La Fauconnie Wedding – Autumnal Wedding
The main wedding celebration took place in the South of France not far from Bergerac in the Dordogne area. Domaine La Fauconnie is a stunning French Chateau that dates back to the 18th Century and is surrounded by vineyards. Choosing to get married in September meant the trees were starting to show signs of Autminal colours and the light was beautiful. The couple had the complete reign of the chateau and kicked off their French wedding event with a Pizza and regional wine night on the Friday.
Come the day itself, Shumonta and her friends and family got ready at the venue, with the groom’s party joining them later. Shumonta wore a stunning dress of organic hemp silk, weaved by women in Nepal and designed by Sanyukta Shrestha. The ceremony took place on the lawns of the Chateau underneath the shade of trees. Shumonta was walked down the aisle by Matt’s dad after sadly losing her own when she was young. The ceremony was followed by the couple walking down the steps to a confetti shower and then cocktails and canapes besides the pool. I was fueled for the afternoon’s events by the most amazing oyster canapes.
The Moon and more…
Dinner took place in the Orangerie and speeches were given by Matt, Shumonta’s brother, Ahsan and James the best man. The couple held their first dance through a sparkler tunnel before partying the night away. We managed to find time for evening portraits as the moon holds a special place in Shumonta’s heart, it’s a way she feels her dad is always with her. As the evening drew on canard and crepes kept the party-goers fulled and the celebrations went on well into the night. The following morning all guests were invited to a typical French breakfast with the newlyweds.
Being with Shumointa and Matt on their special day was a total honour and they are complete legends. I’m looking forward to catching up with them at Shumonta’s cousin’s wedding in October.
