Hailing from New Jersey…

… and working in Manhattan, Nina and Daniel chose the cool urban vibe of 501 Union in Brooklyn as their venue.  A stylish, elegant, city wedding with an industrial vibe.  One awesome day!

New York is such a cool and diverse place. The day before Nina and Daniel were to get married, we met up in the ultra-cool Brooklyn neighbourhood affectionately named as Dumbo (aka District Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass).  These cobbled streets and urban backdrops are filled with a thriving scene and were the perfect place for our pre-wedding shoot.  The couple gave me and Matt (who accompanied me as Second Photographer for the week) a tour of their favourite places in the area, which included the most amazing cocktail and Oyster bar, and ending with genuinely the best (and largest) Pizza I have ever had 🙂

Next Morning…

NEAR DISASTER AND SURPRISE GUESTS…

The wedding day itself didn’t start well with Daniel almost having to go into work!  Luckily he managed to get out of it and relax into the day.  Nina and her bridesmaids got ready at the venue, and Daniel and his groomsmen arrived around midday.  Nina and Daniel had arranged a ‘First Look’ before the ceremony.  This is always a magical moment of the couple seeing each other for the first time on their special day.  They grabbed a few moments together just taking it all in before we made some portraits in the surrounding streets.  As the ceremony began there was a surprise in store for Daniel; Nina had arranged for their beloved dogs to be brought along!  They were both thrilled to have their furry friends involved in their day.

The ceremony itself didn’t start until the late afternoon.  The 501 Union building dates back to 1916 and was the most perfect atmospheric space for all Nina and Daniel’s family and friends.  Large warehouse style open spaces, stylishly decorated with period features and decor that was a perfect mix of contemporary and industrial touches.  The flowers for the day were perfect.  The pampas grass circle arch was a real feature.  Nina had suggested to the skilled florist that she may even consider setting it alight a the end of the evening and they could all jump through it.  Luckily sense prevailed, but it would have made for some amazing photographs!

The meal and evening continued at the venue, and I managed to grab Nina and Daniel, and a few friends, for some portraits.  We wandered around the streets of Brooklyn and grabbed some shots that represented the couple and their love of city life. The couple returned for their first dance which was John Legend’s ‘All of me’.  They were soon joined on the large expansive dancefloor by all their family and friends who partied until the early hours.
