Best wedding photographer – 2014

best wedding photo

2014 you have been awesome. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world doing this crazy art I that I get to call a job. So really, this post is just one big thank you.

Thank you to the couples who have trusted me enough to let me into their lives and capture a small piece of it for them. Thank you to the amazingly talented photographers I have worked with, learned from and collaborated with this year. Including, amongst others Sachin Khona, Fer Juarasti, Adam Johnson, Alex Miller, Mick Shah, Rahul Khona, Matthew Long and Esme Mai. And thank you to my exceptionally lovely wife and family for supporting me and putting up with me being away so much. Thank You.

Professionally this year has been beyond amazing – along the way I was named as one of Rangefinder Magazine‘s ‘Rising stars of wedding photography in the world‘, grabbed a few Fearless Photography awards, was awarded winner of the Best Wedding Photographer in England at the Wedding Industry awards, made it onto JuneBugs exclusive, international ‘Best of the Best Wedding photographers in the World 2014‘ selection – and alongside 3 of the UK’s best wedding photographers have established NineDots wedding photography workshops – and we have even bigger plans for 2015!

So anyway, some 50 weddings, 7 countries, 3 ruined cameras, 2 destroyed lenses, 2 worn out flashes, 1 car to the scrap yard and 290,000 frames later – here is some of what I saw in 2014!:-)

paris elopement photographer

I’ve been incredibly lucky to have spent the last year travelling the world photographing weddings. Some of these have been to the couple’s home countries and the cities where they live, and others have been destination weddings – like when I visited Paris to document Lourdes & Graham’s beautiful elopement.

Lourdes & Graham’s love and care for each other is so obvious as soon as you meet them and they are just awesome to be around. They travelled from New York to Paris with their closest friends and family and the whole day was pretty much perfect: Getting ready a stones throw from the Arc de Triomphe, an incredibly emotional ceremony at the beautiful Chapelle Expiatoire, before rounding the day off in style with a meal, dancing, games and cigars at Le Maceo restaurant. The above image, taken when Lourdes & Graham snuck out to practice their first dance under the arches in the Jardin du Palais Royal could well be one of my favourite shots of the year I think  :-)

I’m so thankful I get to do this, and call it work – and I still can’t quite believe I have photographed more weddings in Paris than in York this year! Massive love to all you awesome couples who choose me to photograph your weddings! x

Rangefinder Rising Stars of Wedding Photography 2014

A couple of years ago, during my first year photographing weddings, I came across Rangefinder (A huge US wedding and portrait photography magazine and official publication of WPPI) and their annual list of 30 rising stars of wedding photography. The list, for me at least, was practically a who’s-who of awesome photographers from all over the world, many of whom’s work had inspired me to start shooting weddings in the first place. Last years list of photographers was no different – an amazing international collection of the best wedding photographers – whose work, ethos and approach I admire – inspirational stuff!

So, i was extremely honoured, humbled and surprised to be told earlier this summer I had been nominated for this years list. And now even more so, to find out that I have been chosen as one of Rangefinder magazine’s Rising Stars of Wedding Photography 2014! So without further ado I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my amazing couples for allowing me to do this crazy art/lifestyle and get to call it a job – you rule – and I am so grateful to be allowed into your lives, even if only for a day, to try capture who you are with a pair of clicking black boxes :: Thank you! (so much!) And, to all the awesome photographers who have inspired, and continue to inspire and push me, you rule.  And last, but not least – to my awesome wifey – who manages to be an amazing mum to our little pair of monkeys while I spend every weekend jetting off to weddings… High fives all round!

Right. Back to the editing cave…

Oh, I suppose I should post some pictures – here’s a few recent faves from an amazing summer of weddings and travel. Once the editing queue is reduced there will be lots more to share – watch this space:-)

Engagement Photography London // Sarah & Peter

I know, I know… I harp on about it all the time, but this job really is the best! And it’s the best because of the people I get to meet and spend time with. People like Sarah & Peter, who let me into their lives for a few hours, or a day, or whatever, and for whom I get to make images and memories for.

Sarah (a photographer herself) and Peter share an amazing, long distance love story – a real international couple. Sarah is from the States and Peter from Australia – and almost 9 years (to the day) since they first met, their lives brought them (and me!) to London on a squally March afternoon to make photos to celebrate the fact. And, that they are getting married later this year in Baltimore, Maryland. It will be awesome!

England brought the weather but we all brought the enthusiasm (and a quaint little cafe behind London bridge supplied the cake!)

I offer engagement, or ‘pre-wedding’ photo sessions to all my wedding couples. If you are getting married it’s a great chance for us to meet and get to know each other before the big day – plus you will hopefully get used to having your picture taken by me (and get to see how easy it is!) –  And if your not getting married, or have already tied the knot, then a couples photos session is a great way to spend an afternoon and to make some great wall art for yourselves. Life goes by quick, and everyone deserves to have awesome photos : Fact!

Rakhee & Stuart // Bishton Hall Indian wedding

The first time I met Rakhee & Stuart was after they had booked me to photograph their big day, and I happened to be in London for another wedding. We arranged to meet in some random pub somewhere in, well, London (my knowledge of the city isn’t too hot – despite working there all the time). Anyway, to cut a long story short we all left a good few hours later a lot the worse for wear… and I’d been looking forward to their wedding ever since!

Raks and Stu invited their friends and family to an amazing day of celebration and party at Bishton Hall in Staffordshire. The weather gods smiled on everyone and both the Indian and civil ceremony were held outside underneath the Doric temple – which made for an awesome back drop to the proceedings and the best outdoor wedding venue – and being the bad ass, ultra cool couple that they are, Stu & Rakhee then effortlessly blended the formalities of the afternoon into an epic drum’n'bass party for everyone.

Cos that’s just how they roll…:-)

Bishton hall wedding photographer was my role for the day! If you are thinking of getting married there and are after some awesome photos then drop me a line – I would love to hear from you – the venue is really unique and it would be great to go back and work at Bishton Hall again.  Contact me here! x
